'Glee,' 'Original Song' Recap - Season !, Episode 16 - AOL Music Blog

'Glee,' 'Original Song' Season 2, Episode 16 FOX

In honour of Regionals, this week's 'Glee' episode, 'Originals,' skipped a review of the series' storyline and went directly into song. The Warbles kicked things off with an energetic and rocking rendition of Maroon 5's 'Misery.' While the Warblers were excited about their new opening act for Regionals, Kurt told Blaine that it didn't look like a group but more like "like Blaine and the Pips.

And second at McKinley, Rachel excitedly shared her new song, 'Only Child,' with Finn, which he thought was a step up from her other tune, 'My Headband,' but still needed more emotion. As the two were talking, Quinn was standing by the schoolroom and revealed her want to be prom queen and that Finn was her ticket to it. However, Rachel "and her talent" were getting in the way of her, the crown and a revived relationship with the star quarterback. Meanwhile, the Warblers were debating a costume change, Kurt walked in rank and informed them that Pavarotti (their beloved songbird) had died and sang the Beatles' 'Blackbird' to pay homage.

Back at Mckinley High, Schuester was slammed with a stop and desist order from My Chemical Romance barring the glee club from performing 'Sing.' Rachel suggested doing original songs for the competition again, which the remainder of the group quickly shot down. But then Quinn surprised everyone by saying that Rachel was correct and that she could help. Finn jumped on board. Santana quickly interjected and said everyone should slope in. After their meeting, Brittany confronted Santana about their 'site' but Santana told her that Brittany made her select and now she will write a "straight" song about Sam.

The Warblers were debating yet again but this sentence about song choice. Blaine broke up the discussion, suggested a yoke and said Kurt should talk with him. Kurt hesitated but then agreed when the rest of the group voted yes. Back at the New Directions camp, Schuester handed out songwriting tip books but Santana told Schuester that she and Tina wanted to do the original song called 'Trouty Mouth' inspired by Sam's lips. When Sam realized Santana's lyrics, he stopped her mid-song. Puck then performed his country rock tune, 'Big Ass Heart' inspired by his new flame, Lauren. While everyone got into it, Mr. Schu still didn't mean it was the correct song.

Quinn met Finn at his cabinet to ask about prom but Finn hesitated saying that Rachel "is in a fragile state right now" and convinced Quinn to delay until after Regional before the two go public about their relationship. Unfortunately, Rachel was tipped off to their little secret when she saw Quinn and Finn walking arm-in-arm through the hall.

Blaine told Kurt that he thought they should sing 'Candles' by Hey Monday which Kurt thought was so not "top 40" of him to do. And when Kurt asked why he chose the song, Blaine said he felt "a moment" while Kurt was singing 'Blackbird' and went in for their first kiss. Mercedes debuted her sassy soul original tune, 'Hell to the No,' which everyone loved but Mr. Schu, who said it wasn't "Regionals material." As the group, sans Rachel and Quinn, brainstormed on new song idea. And afterwards they listed what Sue did to them, "Loser Like Me' was born." Rachel confronted Quinn before they got started on their own songwriting. But after Quinn told Rachel she can't get it right until she got out of her "school girl bubble," Rachel told Quinn she could publish the call on her own then walked away crying. Rachel is then found sobbing in her room while writing the lyrics to 'Get It Right.'

At the Regionals competition, Sue admitted to Leave that she forged the letter from My Chemical Romance, but Will snapped that her stunt inspired New Directions to save their own material. Before the competition started, special guests, comic Kathy Griffin and actress Loretta Devine - were introduced as the eccentric judges of the evening. Aural Intensity was up first with 'Christ Is a Friend of Mine' followed by the Warblers' rendition of 'Candles' by Hey Monday, showcasing Blaine and Kurt on the guide vocals. While they sang, Rachel looked over at Finn but stopped when Quinn grabbed his hand. The Warblers finished up 'Candles' and transitioned into Pink's 'Raise Your Glass.'

Before they went on, Finn wished Rachel luck. But she reminded Finn that final year about the same time, he told her he loved her. After a little awkward silence, he said he liked her song. Rachel smiled and told him to "listen carefully because I think every son of it." As she sang her power ballad, Kurt looked proud that his old glee club did original songs while Finn became entranced in his ex-girlfriend's heartfelt song with Quinn watching in the shadows. Perhaps the love triangle isn't over.

With everyone in the audience giving the New Directions a standing ovation, they premiered their second original song for the night, 'Loser Like Me' - inspiring Kurt and the remainder of the Warblers to go into cheerleader mode, complete with red foam fingers. Sue, on the other hand, looked on in disbelief about what Schu and the New Directions had served up. The unit performance came full circle when apiece of the members grabbed a "slurpie cup" and tossed confetti into the audience. The room erupted with applause, and Finn put his arm around Rachel - making Quinn jealous. After the judges debated about who sang what well, it's announced that the New Directions won. And spell the New Directions cheered, Sue punched the drunk host.

At the end of the episode, Kurt and Blaine buried their late mascot but realized their budding new relationship. Then at McKinley, Schu entered the schoolroom on the ring with Holly Holiday who was on a yoga retreat. He told everyone he cherished to get a custom of awarding the MVP of every competition. And later a solid vote, Rachel won the award, which she accepted graciously and genuinely thanked everyone.
