By now it is virtually impossible to discourse the Yankees` search for starting pitching without saying something like, "It`s no secret that the Yankees need starting pitching help". It`s all been said. Even if Andy Pettitte postpones his engagement with retirement another year and returns for the 2011 campaign it`s probable that the team could yet be looking for service on the craft market this summer.

Give the guy a break! There are some curious grades in today's Daily News midseason report on the Mets and Yankees. Andy Martino, evaluating the Mets, gives Johan Santana just a B .
And Jerry Manuel gets only a B-?
So why only a B for Santana? Apparently because he's only 7-5. But Santana has posted a fine 2.98 ERA, and if you fill out one bad game - a 10-run disaster against the Phillies - he's all the way down to 2.
