Interview: Hamunaptra (The Netherlands)

Interview: Hamunaptra (The Netherlands)

Jan 30, 2011

Hamunaptra (Rienk Bauritius) is a real popular hardcore artist who releases music for the Enzyme Records label. Hamunaptra began his calling in 2002 with two collab tracks featuring two of the biggest names on the Enzyme label: Ophidian on "Frightning Phobia" and Nosferatu on "Soul Entrapment Riot", both released on Enzyme 06.

Since then Hamunaptra has built himself a respected name in the hardcore scene and has a host of fans all over the globe, addicted to his dark melodic and atmospheric hardcore tracks. Hamunaptra plays sets as Hamunaptra, and likewise as the Enzyme X alias. Hamunaptra is now a family man, and I want him the better of chance in living with his new family.

Thanks for the interview Rienk, The Harder View really appreciates it.

THV: How did you get to be apart of the Enzyme records crew? One of the most respected labels in the hardcore sceneHamunaptra: Well, I mean about 13 days ago when I started playing at parties I also started making music. I hung out with Akira a lot, and I invariably gave him my demos and asked for his feedback. Then at some stage he thought my stuff was well enough and he contacted Omar Santana (H2oh Recordings) for me as I remember, and he brought me to the Midtown Studios as he made an engagement with with one of the guys from Neophyte Records. The guy I spoke with liked my things and wanted me to place in more. Now personally I ever wish to play with the better people out there in a certain scene, and Ruffneck was that someone in my eyes. So I thought to myself, "ok, if these guys like what I do, lets see what Ruffneck thinks", so I sent my demo to Cardiac and later a couple days I got a telephone call from Andrea inviting me to come on over and get a chat, and the balance is history. This was yet at the clock when Gansta Audiovisuals and Supreme Intelligence were yet alive.

THV: Working with some of the biggest artists in the view like Ruffneck & Ophidian - do you consider it has made you a more confident producer?Hamunaptra: Yeah definitely, working with those guys, aswell as Endymion and Nosferatu surely pumped my confidence. Also, at the clock they knew just what to do and how to put an idea into good_ and as all of them know_ my mind is filled with weird ideas! I would sit in the studio with Ophidian for an illustration and say him, "I wish the rush to be like a stomping huge dinosaur and the atmosphear as if were walking through the most dreadful horror film ever", and he would see what I was saying and actually produce what I was saying. I`m reffering to "Whispers of a Nameless Fear" now. Also when you listen to the stage where the main soundline (which we recorded while performing it live, Ophidian on one synth, and me on the other) starts to get up, I think so well how I treasured it to sound; "as if there was a demonic monster slowely breaking it`s way through the earths crust", and voila_ one of my personal biggest tracks.

THV: What do you care about performing at parties?Hamunaptra: I wish the atmoshpere thats going on, especially at "darker" parties. I like hearing the tracks I love SLAMMING through a huge sound system. I yet remember playing at the BEST Thunderdome party ever. Just hearing my music through that Vast area_ it feels fantastic!

THV: Do you enjoy playing as Enzyme X?Hamunaptra: I LOVE playing Enzyme X sets. For an example, I get to experiment crazy things, as I know to merge several sounds. As Enzyme X I play industrial, hard techno, darkcore etc. In my Hamunaptra sets I don`t work as experimental. My Hamunaptra style is like my music; raw darkcore with an industrial twist. But when needed I`ll put in a party track to give the ladies happy, and the not so hardcore guys out there lol.

THV: Who do mean is the best hardcore DJ?Hamunaptra: Hmmm, thats a difficult question, there are so many serious and technical DJ`s out there. I reckon up to many of them. A couple names who`s skills I would know to posess are Nosferatu, Partyraiser, The Viper and Manu Le Malin.

THV: Do you get any particular artists you wish to act with in the studio?Hamunaptra: Well, I always love sitting in the studio with Ophidian as everything we do just fits together so well. Put us in a studio and we wont get out untill there is something that we are both happy with and that is kicking arse harder than a mule. Someone I havent worked with yet? Manu Le Malin. There is something near him that makes me imagine a colaboration would do some serious damage. Also, DJ Akira. The guy who helped me get up_ we really have had this planned since ages_

THV: What other styles influence your music?Hamunaptra: Oh man, I hear to so many different styles of music, and I get inspiration from everything, seriously everything I hear. I could hear a truck drive by with loud music, and then see the compounding of the locomotive and the music and something might pop up into my head. I might try an airplane flying by for an exercise and hear something usefull in that_ I get inspired easily!

THV: Your tracks feature samples from repulsion and sci-fi type movies - do you view those types of movies and hear quotes and remember to yourself that will sound well in a running and start from there?Hamunaptra: Yeah definitely! There was a long point of time I couldn`t even see a movie normally and get it. I was always listening to what they were saying with a notebook on my lap and a pen in my hand making notes. I even do that though, lol, but not as much anymore. Now I also try to love the vigor of the entire movie. I also try to search for the hidden parts, like most hardcore producers are looking for screaming lyrics and ask that to colour their track where as I think my written music screams hard as it is, and prefere to put slow talking, soft, deep vocals in them. Something with a doubled and deeper meaning if you recognize what I mean.

THV: You make a 3 yr old daughter, how is living now that you are a father?Hamunaptra: Yeah, the substance of living changes completely when you get a parent. I seen her "coming out" and held her really soon afterwards. She was the smallest thing I get always seen as she was born with a wheight of good over 2 kilos. "Thats like holding 2 packs of sugar?!" I thought to myself_ Certain things get to be more important where others lose their importance. I love life more nowadays, for some reason I find more at rest and more grounded then before. And I would know to have more kids now! Kids are fantastic!

THV: Any words for the fans?Hamunaptra: Certainly. OK, I`m going very deep on you guys now_ have on to something. I want for all of you to love life as often as I do. Live everyday with passion and do something out of it as if there is no tomorrow. So many people let their lives go by and in the end they looking backwards at it only to get out that they havent realised their dreams, and that they didnt do what they actually wanted too, and that they let amazing opportunities pass them by because they "intend" to much. Guys, as a world wide acknoweledged coach I work with so many people that dont actually know their lives how they really want and essentially it fucks up their entire internal system. So for all the guys out there: Stand up straight, grow a beding mustache and man the fuck up! Live your lives without fear! And for all the ladies out there: Your hot, your sexy_ your women! Dont be afraid to let yourselves go and act like what you truly are! I think what im trying to say is_ people should stop being so stupefied and should start having more sex_ yeah, seriously!
