'Pale Kid' Makes Good on Social 50 Chart

The big news on the Social 50 chart this week? That "pale kid" George Watsky.

Also known as Watsky, the emcee debuts at No. 13 on the Social 50 chart after his speedy-rapping clip turned YouTube on its head last week (search "pale kid raps fast"). Uploaded only on Jan. 17, the picture has already amassed more than 4.3 million views (through Jan. 26).

Watsky earned an enormous hit in week-over-week subscribers to his YouTube channel - a 167,000% increase. He too saw an equally astounding jump in views: 108,000%

Not but is Watsky looming large on the Social 50 chart, but he also impacts our sales tallies, too. His 2009 "Watsky" digital album debuts at No. 23 on Heatseekers Albums and No. 62 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with a slight over 1,000 sold.

The Social 50 ranks the most active artists on the world's leading social networking sites - YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and iLike - using a formula blending weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.

Vaulting into the top 10 this week is Nicki Minaj (13-6) and Michael Jackson (20-9), while Justin Bieber holds at No. 1. The acts at Nos. 2-5 all stand motionless as well: Rihanna, Akon, the Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga, respectively. Katy Perry climbs one to No. 7, Eminem drops two to No. 8, and Shakira's steady at No. 10.

Re-entering at No. 20 is Lil Wayne, who had a social network breakdown last week as his former Twitter account was hacked and started tweeting out not-so-friendly missives to his million-plus followers. The second-highest debut on the name comes from Brazilian heartthrob Luan Santana, who arrives at No. 26. The 19-year old young singer sees a 683% increase in week-over-week YouTube channel subscribers and a 262% jump in views. Santana - who earned a Latin Grammy nomination last year for Best Sertaneja Music Album - had one of the top 20 most-viewed music videos on YouTube last week with "Quimica do Amor" (1.8 million).
