Award-winning guitar legend Carlos Santana began to roll down his last two sets of residency shows when he returned to The Juncture at the Hard Rock Hotel last night. As VegasDeLuxe.com reported yesterday, this marks the "origin of the end" for his circle and its two-year residency of Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through The Hits.
Carlos now has just 14 shows remaining below the price of his 2011 contract expiration date. He'll play again this weekend (Jan. 7-9) and again Jan. 12 and 14-16. He then returns April 20, 22-24, 27 and 29-30, with the last goodbye set for May 1.
I am very reliably told that the god of the guitar has "really loved and enjoyed his Las Vegas residency and has already promised to return," but not on a residency basis. He reportedly wants to pass some time on tour again and likewise in Hawaii.
Congratulations to Carlos, 63, and his new bride, drummer Cindy Blackman, 51, who married on Maui six years before Christmas at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Their observance was moved indoors at the last minute due to rain, and the twain used a roll of the fresh rainwater to symbolically wash each other`s hands.
Carlos` local involvement with charities and causes during his Las Vegas run continues with today`s visit by band members and him to our local Boys & Girls Club to turn the facility and meet the youngsters.
Thanks to contributing photographer Erik Kabik for this morning`s photo gallery. Erik, who was front row and center point for these incredible photos, said: "Once again, the legendary performer soulfully jammed through hit after hit and continues to sustain his position as one of the great gifted living guitar gods of all time."
Santana is comprised of Raul Rekow, congas percussion; Karl Perazzo, percussion; Jeff Cressman, trombone; Bill Ortiz, trumpet; Tommy Anthony, guitar and vocals; Tony Lindsay, vocals; Benny Rietveld, bass; Dennis Chambers, drums; Andy Vargas, vocals; and Dave Matthews, keyboards.
